Meet the Li Lab team at the University of North Texas.

Dr. Lin Li

Principal Investigator

Dr. Lin Li

Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering
College of Engineering, University of North Texas

Dr. Li directs the Li Lab's research in neuroengineering, epileptogenesis, electrophysiology, neuroimaging, brain network analysis, and photobiomodulation. His group develops multimodal approaches to detect epileptogenic brain networks and evaluate strategies for preventing or reducing neurological dysfunction.

He received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2015 and his BS in Optoelectronic Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2009.

Current Students

Current graduate and undergraduate researchers.

Xiaoxiao Tao

Xiaoxiao Tao

PhD student

Xiaoxiao joined the Li Lab in Fall 2023 and works in the computational neuroscience track. Her research examines the neural comorbidities of epilepsy, with particular emphasis on post-traumatic epilepsy and epilepsy associated with Alzheimer’s disease. She uses electrophysiological recordings and quantitative analyses to investigate how disrupted neural rhythms and network activity relate to cognitive and memory impairment.

Nastaran Jafari

Nastaran Jafari

PhD student

Nastaran joined the Li Lab in Spring 2023 and works in the computational neuroscience track. Her research uses longitudinal MRI and brain-network analysis to identify biomarkers of epileptogenesis in kainic acid-induced temporal lobe epilepsy and post-traumatic epilepsy. She studies how functional connectivity and network topology evolve during disease progression and how those trajectories differ by etiology.

Miaomiao Wang

Miaomiao Wang

PhD student

Miaomiao joined the Li Lab in Fall 2023 with a strong interest in experimental neurology. Her research focuses on developing and evaluating non-invasive approaches to treat or prevent epileptogenesis, including photobiomodulation, using electrophysiology, histology, and complementary experimental measures. She is particularly interested in translational strategies that can reduce pathological neural activity and neurological dysfunction before chronic epilepsy is established.
